Dewey officials urged to support wind farms

January 19, 2024

I have been a Dewey Beach property owner for maybe a dozen years.

Stopping the windmills won't save Dewey Beach, but it could play a part in dooming it. The state's projection of sea-level rise at Dewey Beach shows the town will be significantly impacted; parts of our town and the highway south will be underwater.

This is climate change, and it is no hoax. It really is happening, faster than once predicted, and with people doing little to stop or even slow it down. The purpose of the towers is not to spoil our view, but to help slow the warming by switching to better energy sources.

People in far-off little island nations are already having to leave the place they have always called home because their islands are sinking under the sea. And some here are worried about losing their view. This is a small price to pay for doing a little bit to save our planet.

Help your grandchildren, even your children, have a place to come to and enjoy by giving the fight against climate change a chance, and learn to find a beauty in the windmills, as millions of people around the world already have.

By not fighting climate change, you won't just be sticking your head in the sand, but also into the water.
