William Patrick Lynch, enjoyed coastal living
William “Bill” Patrick Lynch, 89, of Long Neck, passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a short illness at Pappus House in Thomasville, Pa., Saturday, May 31, 2025.
Bill was born Feb. 2, 1936, in Queens, N.Y., son of the late Richard “Casey” and Mary Lynch. In Bill’s early years, his father was transferred to Washington, D.C., to work at the White House. While it was common for dinner guests at his home to be prominent White House figures, at the time, Bill’s mind was fixed on how he could sneak outside to play baseball. Oh, how older versions of himself would envy the opportunity to talk with presidents over meals his mother prepared! After high school, he served in the Navy. Once back in Virginia, Bill met the love of his life, Mary, while working for Good Humor. Of all his jobs, he took dedicated husband the most seriously!
Throughout their life in Pennsylvania, Bill and Mary owned and operated stores at three different family locations, where Bill built thousands of connections and lasting friendships. Bill’s biggest joy was living in Delaware. He worked for Tunnell Companies, where he became their top salesman. In his later years, he served as a pool attendant at his beloved Lakeside location. Regardless of where he was, Bill loved people, and people loved him back. You could always find him joking around with friends or even complete strangers.
When it came down to it, Bill was a simple man. He loved taking rides through Delaware State Parks or sitting at the bay. As a couple, Bill and Mary were great at romanticizing their day-to-day life together. Time spent with family and friends was absolutely cherished and documented in detail on his calendars that he kept to reference year-to-year. His favorite foods were hot dogs, baked beans, and mac and cheese. He loved a nice apple pie and vanilla milkshake from McDonald’s. Watching various game shows and the Washington Nationals/Commanders on TV were huge highlights for him. In the words of Bill, “That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.”
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Richard “Casey” and Mary Lynch; siblings, James, Henrietta, Joseph, Mary, and Elizabeth Lynch; and daughter, Rebecca Lynch.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Mary Eileen of Long Neck; children, Patrice (spouse Joey Castellano) of York, Pa., and Paul (spouse Gayle Lynch) of Fairfax, Va.; grandchildren, Bailey, Katie, Michael and Wendy; and great-grandchild, Austin.
A celebration of life will be held later in the summer to bring together all the wonderful people Bill’s life touched. Details to come.
Cards, flowers, or plants may be sent to 945 S. Royal St., York, PA 17402, during the week of June 9 or anytime afterward.
