Berry files for 2026 District 20 race
Alonna Berry has filed as a candidate in the 2026 election for the 20th District House of Representatives seat. Berry is currently running in a special election to fill the remaining 2025 term for the seat. She was chosen by a unanimous vote of the RD 20 Democratic Committee following a candidate forum held July 3.
Berry has a background in public service and is running on a platform that includes education, public safety, smart growth, affordable housing and clean energy. She has had an extensive career in education as well as experience as a senior policy advisor in the governor’s office.
“From the classroom to the governor’s office, I’ve spent my career solving problems that matter to Delaware families,” Berry said in a press release. “I’m ready to do the same in the General Assembly.”
By filing for the 2026 race, Berry said she is demonstrating her long-term commitment to get things done for the communities that make up the 20th Representative District. “When I filed I wasn’t just putting my name on a form; I was reaffirming my commitment to bring steady, solutions-focused leadership to the people of Sussex County,” she said.
RD 20 Chair Sue Nyden said the new filing reinforces her confidence that the committee made the right decision by choosing Berry at the candidate forum. “I have been enormously impressed by Alonna Berry,” Nyden said. “She has a deep and comprehensive understanding of the issues that face our district, and unwavering enthusiasm and energy on the campaign trail. And now we see the full extent of the commitment she’s making. It is clear that Alonna Berry is the right person to represent our district in Dover.”
