William Burton Mitchell, proud Army veteran

William Burton Mitchell, 78, of Milton, passed away Sunday, Aug. 17, 2025.

Born Oct. 24, 1946, in Lewes, Bill lived a life defined by service, loyalty, and love. He was a proud Army veteran who honorably served as a sergeant during the Vietnam War.

Bill was preceded in death by his loving parents, Walter “Pete” Mitchell and Helen E. Fraser; and his stepfather, Milton Fraser.

Bill loved his family fiercely, especially his beloved wife, Barbara Mitchell. He is also survived by his sisters, Louellen Lake (Bob) and Patricia Guy; his niece, Staci Jelley (Greg); his nephew, Kris Lake (Kristin); and many extended family members,  including aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces, and a great-nephew.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Bill’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, a cause close to the family’s heart.
