Science and Society Lecture to address pandemic prevention Oct. 7
Lewes Public Library’s Science and Society Lecture Series will present Science magazine’s Jon Cohen for an online presentation based on his new book, "Planning Miracles: How to Prevent Future Pandemics,” at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 7, via Zoom.
Cohen has spent his career as a science reporter talking to scientists, public health officials, politicians and physicians on the front lines of combating infectious diseases, monitoring outbreaks, and developing new treatments, vaccines and preventive measures. With reporting from four continents, his new book discusses preparations for the next pandemic at a time when science denial and misinformation are rampant.
“Jon Cohen has been active in research, writing and lecturing about the efforts to develop, produce and distribute vaccines for infectious diseases such as AIDS and most recently COVID-19 for the last three decades,” said Fred Dylla, series moderator and co-founder. “He is a master at telling these important stories which are even more relevant today amid the growing skepticism of the value of vaccines.”
