Harvey Hanna firm donates to Camp Barnes, Special Olympics

October 10, 2025

Harvey Hanna & Associates is donating new eight passenger electric shuttles to Camp Barnes Inc. and Special Olympics Delaware, helping each organization better serve its participants and members.

“Camp Barnes and Special Olympics Delaware are transforming the lives of Delaware children and athletes every day,” said E. Thomas “Thom” Harvey III, chairman and CEO of the Delaware-based commercial real estate redevelopment firm. “We are proud to support their work and contribute in a way that helps them do even more for the people they serve.”

The Camp Barnes gift presentation is set for 9 to 9:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 17, at Delaware State Police Headquarters, 1441 North Dupont Highway, Dover.

The Special Olympics presentation took place Oct. 7 at the University of Delaware stadium in Newark.

Founded in 1947 and operated by the Delaware State Police, Camp Barnes offers children from across the state a traditional camping experience — from canoeing and swimming to arts and crafts — while instilling the values of community and character development. Families pay no cost for their children to attend, thanks to community support and donations.

The electric shuttle will be used by Camp Barnes staff and volunteers to help manage daily operations across their 13-acre property, improving efficiency and enabling them to better serve the hundreds of children who attend camp sessions each year.

“Camp Barnes has long been a place where character is built and lives are changed,” said Col. William D. Crotty, Delaware State Police superintendent. “This generous donation from Mr. Harvey is more than a gift. It is an investment in the well-being and potential of the young people we proudly serve across Delaware. I want to thank Mr. Harvey for his support, and I also want to recognize Cpl. Jeff Hudson and all the troopers who dedicate their time and hearts to making Camp Barnes a safe, memorable and meaningful experience for every camper.”

Founded in 1971, Special Olympics Delaware has served more than 4,300 children and adults with intellectual disabilities by offering year-round sports training and competition, leadership opportunities, fitness and health education, and community engagement. The organization relies on volunteers, donors and corporate partners to provide all of its programs free of charge to athletes and their families.

Special Olympics Delaware staff and volunteers will use the electric shuttle during training, competitions and community events to move equipment, assist athletes and improve on-site logistics. By making operations more efficient, the donation will allow Special Olympics Delaware to focus even more on its core mission: empowering athletes to experience joy, build confidence, and develop lifelong skills through sports.

“Gifts like this electric shuttle make a real difference in how we can serve our athletes,” said David Halley, Special Olympics Delaware president and CEO. “Whether it’s transporting equipment or helping athletes move safely between events, this donation will directly support the success of our programs. We are deeply grateful to Harvey Hanna & Associates for their partnership and generosity.”

The donations reflect HHA’s ongoing commitment to building stronger communities and supporting organizations that empower Delaware residents through leadership and personal development.

“At Harvey Hanna & Associates, we believe that every person deserves the chance to shine,” said Harvey. “We’re proud to support Camp Barnes and Special Olympics Delaware, and help make their incredible work even more possible.”
