Beebe welcomes specialists to medical staff

November 21, 2025

Beebe Healthcare has added three new physicians to its growing medical staff.

Dean Mittman, MD, is a board-certified general dermatologist who has a specialized interest in caring for patients diagnosed with precancerous and cancerous skin lesions. Mittman advocates for early detection of skin cancer and offers comprehensive skin exams that aim to identify and address abnormalities as quickly as possible.

If a patient is diagnosed with skin cancer, he provides prompt, comprehensive treatment with a goal to prevent the spread of disease. Mittman also cares for adult patients with a wide range of skin conditions including eczema, psoriasis, poison ivy and warts.

“I believe a patient-first mission is so important in any practice, and this made Beebe a good fit for me as I was investigating where to live and work, with a goal to move back east after spending 30 years in the Midwest,” said Mittman. “When I interviewed at Beebe and met the team I would ultimately be working with, everyone was so warm and welcoming. I was confident coming to work for Beebe was the right decision.”

Mittman sees patients at Beebe Center for Dermatology & Dermatologic Surgery on the Abessinio Health Campus near Rehoboth Beach.

Lawrence Kemp, MD, is a general neurologist who diagnoses and treats patients with dementias (such as Alzheimer’s, Lewy body disease and frontotemporal dementia), movement disorders (including Parkinson’s and essential tremor), and neuromuscular diseases (such as myasthenia gravis).

He also cares for patients with multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, migraines and neuropathies. Kemp sees patients age 18 and older.

“I am especially passionate about increasing access to outpatient-based care as Beebe continues to grow its neurology service offerings,” said Kemp. He sees patients at Beebe Neurology Lewes.

Ala Muhanna, MD, AAHIVS, is an infectious disease and geriatric medicine clinician. She specializes in care for older adults who have been diagnosed with complex infections, including those who are age 65 and older, and who suffer from frailty, dementia and other age-related medical issues.

In addition to her board certifications in both infectious disease and internal medicine, she is certified by the American Academy of HIV Medicine. She is committed to guiding the aging population on the steps they can take to prevent illness, improve their health and maintain their independence.

“Beebe appealed to me because of its strong sense of community and dedication to providing high-quality, patient-centered care,” said Muhanna, who is fluent in both English and Arabic. “I am excited to join a team that values collaboration and is here to serve the growing and diverse population in Sussex County.”

Muhanna sees patients at the hospital and various associated outpatient practices located throughout Sussex County, including Beebe Infectious Disease Lewes.
