Farmar Amisial
The Sussex Academy boys’ basketball team is still searching for its first win of the season, but it might have found the first potential star in program history. Amisial’s game grew by leaps and bounds from the end of last year to the beginning of this year thanks to the hard work he’s put in at the gym, both lifting and playing. In addition to AAU, the sophomore also participated in summer league, and he trusted that work. It was the right call, as he dropped 20 points in the season-opening game against Sussex Tech and then 29 points in the squad’s second game against Red Lion Christian Academy, being named Player of the Game by the host. Farmar carries a 3.81 GPA, and although it is a tough course, he said he enjoys chemistry.
Lamar McCoy
This senior guard on the Cape basketball team has given his squad a spark when called to enter the game. He scored eight off the bench in the win over William Penn and followed that up with 12 in the victory over Smyrna, including three from behind the three-point line. He also played lockdown defense and lifted the team with his leadership skills. "Lamar has come into this season with a great attitude and a willingness to fill his role for our team," said Cape coach Steve Re. "He practices and prepares every day with the right energy and effort – it makes us better on a daily basis. He will find success with us this year as he continues to get more and more comfortable with what we are doing. He demonstrates what competitive greatness looks like." An honors student at Cape, Lamar wants to play college football after graduation.
Reilly Mobilia
This Sussex Academy sophomore baller and laxer just got her basketball season underway for the Seahawks, but she just got quite the honor to end her year for her club team, Coastal Lacrosse Academy. For her efforts on the field, Reilly was named an All-American at the midfield position by APEX Select. She began playing both basketball and lacrosse at the same time, and she thinks her winters spent playing basketball have helped her produce on the lacrosse field throughout the year. Mobilia carries a 4.52 weighted GPA and challenges herself with AP biology and honors chemistry, as the sciences grab her attention the most. She loves the game so much that in her free time, she keeps playing lacrosse.
Nick Walker
This Cape senior won the 157-pound title last weekend at the Southern Slam at Eastside High School in Taylors, S.C. The tournament featured 56 teams from seven different states, and included several nationally ranked wrestlers. “Nick became the second wrestler to win a Southern Slam title,” said coach Chris Mattioni. “He helped lead the team to its sixth-place finish, the highest in school history. Nick was tenacious and dominated the field, going 5-0 with two pins, a technical fall, a 9-2 decision in the semis and an impressive 15-3 major decision in the finals. Nick looked good in all positions on the mat. He led the team by example. He is going to be tough to beat this season.” Nick is an honors and AP student who plans to attend college and major in engineering or finance.
