January 27, 2026

The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice recently honored local students for their leadership, effort and excellence.

Lewes Elementary fifth-graders Lyrical Cornelius and Camille Steinberg, and Cape Henlopen High School seniors Jayden Wilson and Savion Shockley-White were recognized in ceremonies at their schools, and each received a $20 gift card to Browseabout Books in Rehoboth Beach.

Lyrical’s teachers said she is an exceptional fifth-grade leader who radiates kindness and infectious positivity. She goes out of her way to include others and makes everyone feel welcome.

A kind and caring fifth-grader, Camille has shown tremendous growth this year, according to her teachers. She works hard, approaches challenges with a positive attitude, and brings a gentle, thoughtful presence to the classroom each day. Her effort and personal growth make her a standout student.

Jayden ’s teachers at Cape said he is a deeply engaged member of the school community with a strong commitment to the arts. He is heavily involved in both theater and band, participating in plays, musicals and marching band, and he consistently meets the significant time and effort demands associated with these programs through dedication and hard work. Known as a friendly and welcoming presence, Jayden is a positive influence on peers and staff alike. Academically, Jayden continues to challenge himself through a rigorous course load and has further demonstrated his commitment to growth by adding an Advanced Placement course in music theory this year. His nominators said Jayden exemplifies the values of a Cape Viking through his work ethic, kindness and generosity with his time, talents and incredible effort.

Savion’s nominator describes him as one of the most resilient and determined students she has had the pleasure of teaching. Savion consistently puts forth his best effort in all his classes and comes to school each day with a genuine desire to excel. Extremely polite, personable and easy to talk to, Savion has a great sense of humor that makes him a joy to have in the building. His teachers said Savion demonstrates strong self-awareness and a natural curiosity about the world. He holds himself to very high standards, which reflects how deeply he cares about his growth and success.
