Milton commission approves new windows at Studios on Walnut
Milton’s Historic Preservation Commission unanimously approved a request by the Studios on Walnut to replace one of its existing garage doors and replace it with a storefront window and glass door.
Manager Douglas Ware told the commission Jan. 13 that the 12-by-12-foot door is not practical. He said the door is about 25 years old, and removing it would make the space more usable.
Project Manager Tom Quass said that while the building is in the historic district, it is not a contributing property, meaning it is not registered with the U.S. Department of the Interior. Ware said the existing door does not open.
The studio is part of a complex of buildings at 310 and 312 Walnut St. that includes a 3,500-square-foot warehouse and a two-bedroom, single-family home. The studio includes artist work spaces and a gallery and was renovated in 2013. The studio had been home to the Milton Arts Guild until the guild moved to its current location on Federal Street in 2021.
