Friendly competitions mark inclusion week at Lewes Elementary

April 1, 2026

Lewes Elementary students celebrated National Inclusion Week with a series of energetic and engaging activities coordinated by the school’s related arts team educators.

Students in second to fifth grades participated in a dodgeball tournament, while kindergarten and first-grade students competed in a container ball round-robin tournament. The events took place during each grade level’s related arts period and brought all homeroom classes together in the gym for some friendly competition.

Organized by coach Ben Ashby, the school’s physical education teacher, the tournaments allowed students to compete against other homeroom classes while cheering on their classmates, and celebrating teamwork and inclusion.

The gym was filled with excitement as students encouraged one another throughout the competitions. While the games were sometimes intense, the focus remained on participation, sportsmanship and having fun together.

The events served as a meaningful way to recognize National Inclusion Week by bringing students together through physical activity and teamwork, and creating lasting memories for participants across all grade levels.

The Lewes Elementary Related Arts team has made the tournaments an annual tradition and is already looking forward to hosting the event again next year.

Winning classes, listed by grade level and teachers, are: fifth grade, Abeygail Evans; fourth grade, Trevor Bradshaw and Brandi Townsend; third grade, Ashleigh McCarthy; and second grade, Hope Smith.
