Legacy Academy celebrates American Jubilee
To cap the academic quarter and immerse students in the study of Colonial America, Legacy Academy hosted an American Jubilee celebration.
Dressed in period costume and experiencing colonial life, students gained firsthand understanding of the events and culture around this nation’s founding.
A keynote presentation from Darryl Hudson of the Delaware Society of the Sons of the American Revolution educated students on the history of the American flag. Students practiced colonial crafts like needlework, candle making, whittling wood and churning butter. They re-enacted an epic battle of Redcoats vs. Patriots. They also danced a traditional reel and enjoyed a period-inspired feast.
“By intentionally pausing to look back at the past, Legacy Academy gives students a broader and wider view on the events influencing our present day,” said Karen Barbrow, head of school. “We hold out the founding forefathers as examples of courage and devotion to liberty and freedom of conscience. We also point to their faith in God and biblical principles as a guiding influence in upholding justice. Legacy Academy’s unique educational model embodies learning for our students. Our Scholé Days – days of restful learning – teach in profound ways as we take history out of the pages of our books and bring them to life.”
