Gumbo Crawl participants search for the best in town

More than 1,000 people and two dozen restaurants participated April 11 in the 2026 Rehoboth Beach Gumbo Crawl.
After all the samples of the hearty Louisiana-style stew were tasted and ballots were counted, Mariachi Restaurant was named as having the best gumbo. The second-place finisher was Zogg’s Raw Bar & Grill. The third-place finisher was the Purple Parrot Grill. For the second year in a row, Victoria’s Restaurant won the best specialty drink competition.
The annual event is co-hosted by Rehoboth Beach Main Street and the Purple Parrot.

The puppies were leading this group of mostly Pennsylvanians in the Gumbo Crawl. Pups in front are Marley, Rasta, Snow and Dixie. Shorebreak Executive Chef Michael Murty and owners Ben and Diane Winaczyk dish up their version of gumbo. It included a house-made biscuit and Louisiana andouille sausage.

Dave and Dan Desche and John Yohannan loved the Summer House and Purple Parrot offerings in the Gumbo Crawl.
