Janice L. ‘Jan’ Crouch, medical professional

July 11, 2012

Janice L. “Jan” Crouch, 55, of Milford, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, Monday, July 9, 2012.

Jan was born March 11, 1957, in Wilmington, the daughter of William Albert and Joyce (Gouldstone) Prettyman.

Jan's professional life, a Registered Nurse BSN, began in the emergency room of Delaware Hospital in Wilmington. She moved to southern Delaware and worked at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes for a short period of time, then went to work for the State of Delaware Division of Developmental Disabilities Services. Jan was instrumental in moving people with disabilities out of the Stockley Center and into the community to both live and work. She enjoyed the work very much and touched hundreds of lives. Then, seeking a new challenge, Jan accepted a position in public health for the State of Delaware, where she managed many programs, including lead poison prevention, at risk teen pregnancy, and communicable diseases, to name a few. She retired from the state in 2010.

Still looking for a challenge, she went to work for CHEER Senior Services as the director of home healthcare, where she managed four nurses and over 60 home health aides. Jan then decided that she wanted to sell real estate, secured her license, and was actively working and selling real estate for first class properties.

In her spare time, she loved to go to auctions, flea markets, yard sales, junk sales and pawn shops. Jan was always looking for a deal! She also loved to fish, crab, be at the beach, and always looked forward to spending time with family in Avon, N.C. on the Outer Banks.

She was a very loving and thoughtful mother, wife and friend. To know Jan was to love Jan. This world has truly lost an angel!

She is survived by her husband, Craig Crouch; their three beautiful children, Andrew Blatzheim, Anthony Taddeo and Lauren Crouch; her parents, Bill and Joyce Prettyman; four brothers, Rick, Glen, Billy and Barry Prettyman; and her sister, Cathy Meserindino.

A celebration of Jan's life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 14, at Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 N. Church St, Milford, where friends may call between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Following the service, friends are invited to join the family for a reception at the Milford Elks Lodge, 18951 Elks Lodge Road.

Burial will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to KSI, 301 N. Rehoboth Blvd., Milford, DE, 19963, or to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720. Arrangements handled by Rogers Funeral Home, Milford.
