Police investigating Bowers Beach death

Delaware State Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in a ditch along South Bowers Beach Road, south of Bowers Beach.

The body of Robert Weldon, 57, of Milford was discovered just after 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, in a ditch containing about 4 feet of water. Police said his body was outside his Jeep Cherokee, and it appeared that he had been in the water for more than an hour.

Troopers said they believe Weldon may have been four-wheeling in the area when the jeep went into the ditch. He may have been trying to get out of the jeep when his death occurred, police said.

Weldon's body was turned over to the state Medical Examiner's Office to determine the exact cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing, and troopers will determine at the conclusion of the autopsy if Weldon suffered a medical condition or died as a result of the weather.
