Del Tech Owens offers new certificate training programs starting Oct. 1
This fall, there is an even greater opportunity for people to obtain training in a new skill or career field with the addition of new programs from the Corporate and Community Programs division of Delaware Technical Community College’s Owens Campus. A certificate is awarded to anyone who successfully completes the programs.
Massage Therapy, a 600-hour program, is designed to prepare students for entry-level careers in therapeutic massage as licensed massage therapists. This comprehensive course teaches students the art and science of massage therapy, as well as sound ethical and business practices that prepare students for success in the workplace.
Students will also be prepared to sit for the National Certification Exam for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork or the National Certification Exam for Therapeutic Massage. This program will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays beginning Oct. 1 and ending June 12, 2013. The cost is $6,599. Licensed massage therapist Joann Justice will be the instructor. A free information night will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Sept. 10, at the Owens Campus.
Personal Trainer program will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturdays beginning Oct. 6 and ending Dec. 8. The cost is $699. A free information session will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Owens Campus. This 62-hour course is taught over an eight-week period.
The national exam is held on the ninth week and consists of 16 hours of lecture, 16 hours of hands-on practical training and a 30-hour internship that networks many graduates right into a job and prepares them for success with key topics that include biomechanics, exercise physiology, fitness testing, equipment usage and health assessment. World Instructor Training Schools is the only major certifying body in the country providing comprehensive practical training and internship components.
Electronic Health Records Specialist program will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Oct. 2 and ending Nov. 12, 2013. The cost is $3,649. Participants will learn practical, hands-on knowledge of concepts in the documentation, regulation and reporting of electronic health records. This 445-hour course consists of three major components: Medical Terminology, Electronic Health Records Theory, and Medical Coding and Billing Practices.
Spanish for Healthcare Professionals will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesdays beginning Oct. 17 and ending Dec. 19. The cost is $245. Students will learn Spanish terms and phrases that are used in the healthcare industry to include basic questions, greeting customers and talking with patients in person or on the telephone. This program also introduces essential medical vocabulary and practical reference information. Instruction is provided in simple, easy-to-understand terms. No prior Spanish is necessary.
Medical Insurance Specialist will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays beginning Nov. 5 and ending March 11, 2013. The cost is $995. This course provides training in the area of medical insurance and healthcare claims processing, as well as CPT and ICD coding, and computerized medical billing. Introduction to major medical insurance programs, basic knowledge of national diagnostic and procedural coding systems and reviewing the filing claim forms process will also be taught.
