Evelyn Rosemary Amato, university retiree
Evelyn Rosemary Amato (nee Keegan), 70, of Bethany Beach, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2012. Rose was born Oct. 1, 1941, to Maurice and Evelyn (nee Simon) Keegan and was the devoted wife of the Late Henry J. (Hap) Amato Sr.
She is survived by four sons and their wives, Col. Hank and Karen Amato of Fishersville, Va., Matthew and Ginny Amato of Thomasville, N.C., Carl and Sherry Amato of Mullica Hill, N.J. and Mark and Renee Amato of Mullica Hill; and six grandchildren: Lauren Amato of Waco, Texas, Tori Amato of Charlottesville, Va., Andrew and Alison Amato of Thomasville, N.C. and Karly and Jacob Amato of Mullica Hill. Mark and Renee will give birth to her seventh grandchild in January.
She was preceded in death by her sister Pat and is also survived by her brother Maurice (Gerry) Keegan of Deptford, N.J.
Rose was a long time resident of Ewan, N.J. and attended Gloucester Catholic High School. Evelyn worked for Rowan University in the computer science department, retiring in 1999 after 20 years. She served as president of the CWA Union. Rose and Hap retired in Bethany Beach. A devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother and faithful friend, her companionship will be missed by all.
Friends may greet the family from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 21, in the Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Ave., Pitman, NJ. A funeral Mass will be held at 1p.m., in Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 161 Pitman Ave., Pitman. Interment will be in Richwood Cemetery.
