Lopez's wife defends women's rights stance

November 2, 2012

My name is Janis Lopez and I am the wife of Ernie Lopez, candidate for the 6th State Senate district. Ernie and I have been married for 11 years and have two beautiful daughters, Anna and Claire. No one knows Ernie as well as I do, and I know that my husband sincerely wishes to represent your families and your values in the newly created 6th State Senate district.

Over these last 11 months of campaigning, Ernie has focused on the issues facing the people in Eastern Sussex County. With the girls and me by his side, Ernie has run a clean and positive campaign and taken the time to knock on thousands of doors, attend hundreds of community events, and hear about the everyday concerns of our neighbors.

It is unfortunate that Ernie’s opponent has not chosen to follow the same path in his campaign for this same seat. As a woman and a mother of two daughters, I am saddened that his most recent attacks have resorted to distortions about Ernie’s stance on women’s health. Obviously as a loving family man, Ernie is devoted to the women in his life and would never jeopardize or misrepresent our healthcare options with a petty political prank.

For these reasons and so many, many more, I ask that you stand with me in support of a man who represents honesty, humility, and trust. I ask that you support my husband, Ernie Lopez, in the general election Nov. 6.
