The Tower Hill at Cape girls' lacrosse game at Champions Stadium May 10 was a warm-up and run-up to the eight-team state tournament, which begins Saturday, May 18.
Cape is coming off four straight state championships; before that run, it was three straight for the Hillers.
The Vikings won the game 13-5 after trailing early 2-1 then easing out to a 9-3 halftime lead.
The second half saw Cape run the clock with the score at 13-3 with 10 minutes remaining, but the Hillers closed for the 13-5 final.
Eight different players scored for Cape - offensive diversity is a major Vikings weapon - including Sara Young and Allie Yeager each with 3 goals, Sarah Tappan with 2 and Anna Frederick, Lizzie Frederick, Karalyn Joseph, Kat Judge and Jordan Brown each with one.
Assists came from Anna Frederick 3, Yeager 2 and Lexi Woodruff 2.
Tower Hill goals were by Sophie McCoy 3, Meghan Cobb and Alexandra DuPont.
Jenna Chodos had an assist for the Hillers.
Cape outshot Tower Hill 31-18. Sam Broadhurst was credited with 8 saves while Simona D’Antuono had 11 for Tower Hill.
“We played hard; we played OK, but not great,” coach P.J. Kesmodel told his team after the game. ‘We really didn’t shoot well and missed some wide-open looks. Tower Hill is a good team, and there’s a good chance you will see them again.”
Cape concludes the season at Champions Stadium Wednesday, May 15, hosting once-beaten Sussex Tech at 6 p.m. A halftime Senior Night celebration will recognize seniors from both teams.
