DRBA Police Apprehend Armed Robbery Suspects - Suspects Sought in Several Bank and Supermarket Robberies in the South

(Carneys Point Twp., NJ)  On Friday August 2, 2013, Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) police apprehended two suspects wanted in connection with multiple bank and supermarket robberies in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.  Law enforcement agencies in the South had issued a BOLO alert for a silver Mitsubishi Lancer with Florida tags along with a description of the subjects wanted in connection with this crime spree. 

DRBA police units spotted a vehicle matching that description among the more than 45,000 vehicles traveling that day on I-295 northbound over the Delaware Memorial Bridge into New Jersey.   DRBA police officer Pfc. Neal Strauss followed the vehicle for more than three miles to a Gulf gas station located on Pennsville-Auburn Road in Carneys Point, NJ.  The two male subjects subsequently exited the vehicle and proceeded to enter the station. 

Pfc. Strauss immediately exited his unmarked police vehicle and placed the subjects under arrest.  The suspects, Michael E. Monaghan, 28, and David A. Sabula, 19, both of Naples, FL were apprehended without incident.

DRBA officers Sgt. Jason Kirchner, Pfc. Leon Gardner, Ptl. Enya Spence, Ptl. Dominic Liberto, Pfc. Darren Diaz and officers from Carneys Point and Pennsville police departments arrived and assisted in securing the subjects and gathering evidence.  The vehicle was impounded and the suspects are being held without bail in the Salem County Correctional Facility pending further investigation and extradition.
