Thelma E. Pusey, deputy comptroller

Thelma E. Pusey, 96, of Seaford, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, May 24, 2014.

Thelma was born in Laurel, daughter of the late Gardner and Huldah (Adams) Elliott. She was deputy comptroller for Sussex County for 15 years, retiring several years ago.

Thelma was a member of Asbury U.M. Church and was active in the Women’s Society of Christian Service group. Although Thelma had no children, she dearly loved and enjoyed spending time with her sisters and their families, especially her nine nieces and nephews. Thelma also loved cooking.

In addition to her parents, Thelma is preceded in death by her husband, James W. Pusey who died Aug. 21, 1997; three sisters, Edith E. Scott, Iva Hedges, and an infant sister, Betty Elliott; and a nephew, Donald C. Scott.

She is survived by a sister, Doris Rogers of Georgetown; eight nieces and nephews, Leslie M. Scott and wife Beverlee T., Lorraine Scott, Richard Hedges, Barbara Elliott and husband John, Jim Hedges and wife Kate, Kenny Hedges and wife Barbara, Mary Carey and husband Donald, and Lawrence Clendaniel; 17 great-nieces and -nephews; and 21 great-great nieces and -nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 28,  in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, with visitation Tuesday, May 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Asbury Cemetery.
