Delaware Technical and Community College’s Communications Department took over Milton Theatre Thursday, April 30, to present work that featured  video, photography, creative writing and graphic design.

The Multimedia Art Showcase was hosted by past communications graduate Brandon Paul, also known as DJ Magellan of Ocean 98.1.  An internship is a graduation requirement of the communications program, and Paul interned at none other than Ocean 98.1 They were so impressed by his skills they offered him a job.

“The communications program really helped me get my foot in the door,” said Paul.

The art show featured several photo-essay exhibits, student-created movie trailers, creative writing, video postcards, and video news stories, all the work of current communications students.

Lydia Conner is a current communications student whose work was featured at the show.

“I really enjoyed having my work displayed. People gave such amazing feedback. It was very rewarding to have my work shown to a crowd of that size,” Conner said. “Working on projects this year, knowing they had potential to be considered for the showcase, definitely made me work harder on them.”

Jenna Hitchens, a communications student who will graduate at the end of the semester, said she plans to go to Delaware State University for her bachelor’s degree. She hopes to one day be an executive producer of a television show or to host a show of her own.

“I’ve learned so much in my classes,” said Hitchens. “From writing news to making a website.”
