Asana Friday - Shavasana
Shavasana, corpse pose, is the very first pose (asana) that a student learns.
In Svaroopa® yoga, blankets are placed under your knees to support the low back. This support helps all of the spinal muscles to lean into the floor, which will begin to release tension through the entire spine.
While in shavasana, the teacher talks the students through a “guided awareness” designed to bring a deeper perception into the body. Thus, transitioning from the state of action for both body and mind to non-action, where body and mind begin to let go of everyday stresses and move into a more relaxed state. This state is preparation for a more profound, connected yoga practice. The effect is a mindful experience for spinal release that is the result of the poses in the rest of the class.
Shavasana is one of yoga’s most important poses. We begin and end almost every class in shavasana.
It can be done alone or preceding a yoga practice.
Everyone can at least do this powerful yoga pose. It will have a profound effect on your body, mind, and more.
