High school bids farewell to Brian Curtis
Students, staff and administrators at Cape Henlopen High School bid farewell to Assistant Principal Brian Curtis, who has left the district for a post with the Department of Education.
Students gave Curtis going-away presents during a positive-behavior support (PBS) breakfast, sponsored by the parent boosters, for the junior class for earning the most positive referrals in December.
Cape Henlopen High School Principal Brian Donahue said, “A big part of PBS is Mr. Curtis, who has been integral to our innovative programs at the high school.” He congratulated Curtis on his new position and said the school will miss him.
Guidance counselor Terry Sutton thanked Curtis and said he’s been a good sport during the PBS program, dressing up for student videos and singing and dancing on stage during a ninth-grade assembly. School board President Spencer Brittingham said Janet Maull has taken over Curtis’ spot as an acting assistant principal. He said his hope is that Maull will remain for the rest of the year, but the school board will decide whether to retain Maull or hire a replacement.
Curtis told students, “I can’t think of a place I’ve been that’s been as special as the nine years I’ve spent in this district. Most have been with people in this room –people in this room who’ve been in my office.” He encouraged students to take advantage of their time at Cape, because the high school has more to offer them than many places they’ll go.
