Rehoboth officials plant Arbor Day tree

December 25, 2015

Rehoboth Beach Mayor Sam Cooper proclaimed Dec. 9 Arbor Day and celebrated by planting a ceremonial tree in front of Browseabout Books.

After reading the proclamation, Cooper, shown, and City Manager Sharon Lynn shoveled the first scoops of dirt on the new tree.

Sposato Landscaping donated the Japanese Zelkova tree; the location was chosen to replace a tree that died. This is the 22nd Arbor Day in Rehoboth and Priscilla Smith, chairwoman of the city’s Parks and Shade Tree Commission, said it is also Rehoboth’s 25th year as a Tree City USA.
