Handyman offers personal service
Growing up in Little Italy in the '80s and '90's, Handyman Dominick Coviello learned a lot about being true to his word.
Living in Wilmington, Coviello, a carpenter by trade, said he also learned what it was like to work for big companies.
When Coviello moved to Sussex County five years ago he wanted a change; after working for larger contracting companies and filling his spare time with the small side jobs they would not take on, the handyman decided to go to work for himself and founded The Little Guy'z LLC last November.
"This all started with doing little things for people," Coviello said. "It's taken off from there."
Fixing broken windows or busted screens, tree removal, trim work, digging out driveways, mowing lawns, painting, repairs, renovations, small and large jobs: these tasks are his bread-and-butter. If he can't fix it, he's got a sub-contractor who can.
The only problem is, nobody knows about his business yet.
Standing five feet, five inches tall, Coviello's business name appears to be inspired by vertical challenges, but instead the handyman said the name of his business is rooted in the personal service he offers as opposed to big contractors.
"A lot of big companies won't show up for the little stuff," he said. "I like doing the little stuff. I'm very versatile, and I pride myself on showing up."
Coviello accepts credit cards, offers free estimates and is available for 24-hour emergency service. Typically, he takes care of all the legwork, comparing products and pricing, and working with a homeowner's budget.
Once the work is laid out, the handyman said he is willing to work around a his client's schedule with a focus on getting the job done.
But it all starts with showing up.
"Down here, a lot of people won't show up," Coviello said. "We show up, we're fair, and we base our business on integrity."
As Rehoboth resident Tommy Gibson overheard the handyman speak of his business practices, he asked for a business card.
Gibson is a massage therapist who is completely blind. He has a seeing eye dog, Otis, and helpers for other tasks in his life, but Gibson said he's run into the same problems Coviello referenced when it comes to home repairs in his 14 years at the beach.
"I had to have floors put in and cabinets replaced," Gibson said. "But getting someone to come in and do it and finish it is another story. I've had horror stories."
At The Little Guy'z LLC, Coviello said that's not the way his business works.
"I like to work and the work is there, but I'm trying to get my name out there and build my clientele," he said. "I build a bond with these people. I call, I check up on them. Contractors don't do that."
