Annual Outdoor Happenings Highlight Our Early August Coastal Events Calendar

It's hard to believe, but we're now entering the last full month of what's been a fantastic 2017 summer season here at the Delaware beaches. As always, we have some great things on tap for the next few days at points all throughout the coastal region, and we’re going to give you the complete rundown below.

This week's events and happenings are headlined by dual annual events at both the Lewes Historical Society and the Rehoboth Art League. These are very popular yearly gatherings, so be sure to check them out if you have the chance.

It's also time for Delaware's Tall Ship, the Kalmar Nyckel to make it's return to the Lewes Ferry Terminal. If you've never taken a ride on this First State treasure, give it some consideration - from what we hear, it's an experience you won't soon forget.

Before we move on to this week's featured events, a quick reminder to mark your calendars for some of southern Delaware's biggest happenings coming up this fall. Here's a rundown, so you can make plans today on attending these fabulous local events.

Have you marked your calendars? Great, now on to our featured events for the weekend of August 4-7 here in fabulous coastal Delaware.

We begin in historic Lewes, for what is always an extremely popular event on the grounds of the historical society...

Lewes Historical Society Outdoor Antiques Show (August 5). This annual gathering returns in 2017 to the Lewes Historical Society on Shipcarpenter Street downtown. It's the 54th year for the event, which is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., this Saturday, August 5.

Dozens of high quality antiques dealers are expected this year, with 18th to 20th century items on full display. In addition to the dozens of vendors, there will also be a number of food selections and festive music playing throughout the day.

Admission is $5 and children under 12 are admitted free. Proceeds benefit the Society and are used in educational and preservation programming.

Rehoboth Art League Arts & Crafts Show (August 5-6; 12-13). Scheduled for the next two weekends at the Rehoboth Art League campus in Henlopen Acres, this 44th annual event features more than 125 artists from around the United States displaying their creations.

Displays will be set up all throughout the League's three-and-a-half acre campus. Other activities for the four-day event include food vendors, historic tours, face-painting, gallery exhibits and a fantastic Dogfish Head Beer Garden.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., on August 5 and 12, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on August 6 and 13.

CHEER Car, Truck and Bike Show (August 5). From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, August 5, visit the CHEER Center in Georgetown where more than 100 classic and antique cars will be on display. The event this year if focused on the "History of the Ford," with organizers promising everything from a 1927 Model T to modern Mustangs, Thunderbirds and much more.

This is a FREE event for the public, but children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Other activities throughout the day include a gourmet champagne brunch for $25, silent and live auctions and more.

All proceeds go toward funding programs at the CHEER Center. For more information call 302-515-3040.
