Body Slamming ALS set for Jan. 21 in Frankford

December 28, 2016

When local businessman Tim Hill was diagnosed with ALS in 2014, he set out on a mission to help other people who were diagnosed with this horrible neurodegenerative disease. By means of fundraising, Hill's charity, 10-Mile Miracle for ALS, is able to provide patients on Delmarva with desperately needed medical equipment and supplies, among other various items these patients need, without the normal bureaucratic red tape. This year, TMM has joined forces with United Wrestling Alliance to announce their annual fundraising event, Body Slamming ALS.

This wrestling event, scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 21, will feature some of the best wrestling talent on the East Coast. Making a special appearance at the event, to be held at the Frankford Fire Company, is WWE Hall of Famer Tito Santana. The charity hopes to fill the venue, with 450 tickets on sale to the public. Hill, an ALS patient himself, plans to take part in the battle royal match.

Tickets are on sale now - $20 general admission, $5 for children 10 years old and under. To purchase tickets or donate to TMM, go to www.TenMileMiracle.com.

When asked, "Why a wrestling event?" Hill gently smiles and explains that he holds these types of fundraisers to "give hope to others – do the things they say ALS patients can't." After his diagnosis of ALS in April 2014, Hill started to rapidly lose strength and was walking with the aid of a cane. His doctors told Hill to go home and "get your affairs in order," five words that almost every person diagnosed with ALS hears much too often.

After thousands of prayers, good medical care and lots of physical therapy, Hill slowly regained his strength and was able to walk 10 miles solo, from Dewey Beach to Bethany Beach in November 2014. His 10-mile walk was only the beginning. His walk in 2014 raised funds for local ALS patients and brought awareness of this debilitating disease. Hill, with the assistance of his family and co-workers, went on to hold his second annual fundraiser. In October 2015, 13,500 Feet For ALS was held at the Laurel Airport. Hill, with five close friends and family by his side, sky-dived and again was able to raise funds and awareness. Again this year, Hill will do something that most would think an ALS patient couldn't do.

All of the money donated to the charity goes directly to support local ALS patients on Delmarva. Hill personally covers all of the administrative costs related to the charity. None of the funds raised by the charity are used for Hill's personal ALS treatment. Thanks to the generosity of donors, TMM has been able to grant every single request for help. These requests include medical equipment, transportation, in-home patient care, assistive devices, wheelchair ramps, medicine, food and so much more. However, the need is great and the charity continues to seek support from donors.
