Cape baseball gets big win over Dover 6-1

Vikings head to Polytech for Friday game
April 28, 2017

Cape baseball won a big game at Chris Short field April 27, defeating once-beaten Dover 6-1 behind a six-strikeout, four-hit pitching performance from David Erickson.

The top of the order got it done for Cape in the first two innings, as the Vikings scored three in the first and added three in the second inning. Zack Gelof connected for a single and double, while Noah Piper stroked a triple after failing to get a bunt down, then later executed a hit-and-run RBI single to score Gelof again. Erickson had a double, two RBIs and three walks.

“It’s all pretty simple right now,” said coach Ben Evick. “We are as good as our pitching - that sets the tone. We played with confidence over seven innings. And now, a big game at Polytech [April 28], a tough place to play.”

Cape will battle the 6-3 Panthers at 4:15 p.m. in Woodside.
