Mike Guenther and Anderson Smith notch hat tricks

The Tatnall boys’ lacrosse team led Cape 3-0 in the first quarter of the March 27 matchup at Legends Stadium, but the Vikings tied it at 3-3 by halftime.

Cape took control in the second half, running a 7-2 crooked number at the Hornets for a hard-earned 10-5 victory.

“We have to come out mad and play that way from the beginning,” said senior attacker Mike Guenther, who had three goals and an assist in the game. “We didn’t execute in the first half because we didn’t bring the intensity. I’m a senior, so I know I’ve got to bring it and I can always do more.”

Cape also got a solid scoring effort from Anderson Smith, who tallied three goals. Single-goal scorers were Burke Healy, Jack Schell, Evan Burris and Brenner Short.

Cape assists came from Guenther, Schell, Short and Ryan Morgan each with one.

Assistant coach Jack Lingo said long stick middie Jake Hutchison had an awesome game all over the field.

“I’ll second what Mike [Guenther] said," Hutchison said after the game. “We’ve got to play angry from the opening face-off. Tatnall is a good team. We needed a tough game before LaSalle next week.”

Goalie Mason Trench had 10 saves for the Vikings.

Cape lost to LaSalle 11-7 last year at Washington College. The Vikings will travel to Washington College again this year to face LaSalle at 4 p.m., Wednesday, April 3.
