Cape golf swings toward state tournament

The Cape golf team moved to 14-1 with two wins, over Delmarva Christian 172-216 and Smyrna 172-224 at Rehoboth Beach Country Club May 15, and a 176-203 win over Sussex Academy May 16 at Kings Creek Country Club.

In the win over Delmarva Christian and Smyrna, senior Matt Zehner shot a 38, while Dane Palmer had a 42, Nolan Brown scored a 45, Saxon Kalb and Michael Bollig each scored a 47 and Maddie McGreevy scored a 53.

Delmarva Christian’s Christopher Vonhof scored 42, Max Kichline scored 52, Josh Vonhof had a 56 and Bruce Herman scored 66.

Smyrna’s Georgia Sexton hit a 41, Alex Gibason 56, Angel Howard 62, Spencer Frawley 65 and Taylor Davis 66.

In the victory over Sussex Academy, Matt Zehner scored a 39, Dane Palmer 44, Nolan Brown 46, Michael Bollig 47, Saxon Kalb 51 and Jayson Saldana 57.

Sussex Academy golfers James Riddle scored a 44, Chris Marshall 52, Trey Mitchell 53, Tom Hudson 54, Ben Davis 55 and Simone Harrison 59.

The Vikings ended the season with a 174-180 loss to Sussex Tech at Heritage Shores Golf Club in Bridgeville. 

Cape will begin DIAA State Tournament play Tuesday, May 30, at Maple Dale Country Club.
