Cape lacrosse girls eclipse Polytech 20-3

Cape hosts Sussex Academy Friday night at Champions Stadium

The Cape lacrosse girls ran the roster at the Polytech Panthers April 8 in Woodside, using combinations of permutations on the way to a 20-3 win. The team warmed up under a partial eclipse of the sun, but few players looked up as it was mostly cloudy.

"We are in a stretch of five games in eight days with a big game Friday [April 12] against Sussex Academy. We think we are getting better and getting smarter,” said head coach Lindsey Underwood. 

Scoring goals for Cape were Carrie Clausius with four; Claire Lopez with three; Addison Basile, Ally Diehl, Lina Frederick and Macy Steinwedel with two goals each; and single scores from Avary Miller, Lulu Rishko, Olivia Burkentine, Mairead Rishko and Haley Gamuciello. 

Assists were recorded by Basile with four; Lopez, Grace Wiggins, Lindsay D’Ambrogi and Regan Best with two; and Steinwedel, Lulu Rishko, and Burkentine with one apiece. 

Anna Lopez and Abby Schaeffer split time in goal.

Polytech goals were scored by Molly Kenney with two and Madison Todd with one. Christina Phillips had an assist for the Panthers.

Late results - Cape defeated Dover 20-1 April 10 to improve to 6-0 on the season.

Scoring goals were Claire Lopez and Steinwedel each with three goals, Clausius and Frederick with two each and D’Ambrogi, Lulu Rishko, Burkentine, Basile, Best, Gamuciello, Mairead Rishko, Anna Sullivan, Amara Fruchtman and Allaire Burton with one apiece. Assists were recorded by Mairead Rishko with three, D’Ambrogi and Basile with two, and Clausius with one.
