Cape swimming downs Dover

The Cape swim teams were missing key swimmers, but had little trouble defeating Dover Jan. 26 at the Sussex Family YMCA in Rehoboth Beach. The girls’ team moved to 9-0 with a 110-36 win, while the boys improved to 8-1 with a 109-52 victory. 

Anna Sullivan, Jenna Reinhold, Natalie Schneider and Leah Sullivan won the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:20.21. Haliey Hassell took first in the 200 free in 2:19.20. Hayden Hazzard won the individual medley with a time of 2:38.58. Isla Touw won the 50 free in 27.30 and the 500 free in 6:07.28.
Sarah Lester-Stranick won the 100 fly in 1:19.02. Reinhold won the 100 free with a time of 59.97 and the 100 breast in 1:23.57. The 200 free relay team of Reinhold, Gianna Brown, Molly Daniel and Madison Mastriana won the 200 free relay with a time of 2:03.37.
 Anna Sullivan won the 100 backstroke in 1:07.00. The 400 free relay won with no time taken.

The boys’ team kick off the meet with a win by Weston Bohl, Kieran Morrissey, Ryan Morgan and Liam Mitchell in the 200 medley relay in 2:01.62. Jacob Gabbard won the 200 free with a time of 2:10.14. Morgan won the individual medley in 2:27.00 and the 100 backstroke in 1:04.93. William Roberts won the 100 fly in 1:01.03. Garrett Van Sant won the 100 free in 1:00.13. Cole Huxtable won the 500 free in 5:32.52. Merritt Burke, Francis Fuscellaro, Davis Mault and Bohl took first in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:49.50. 

“We had some of our swimmers out due to illness and family trips,” said Cape coach Bill Geppert. “It was an excellent opportunity for others on our team to step in and get their chance. Great moments are born from great opportunity. We were excited at their times. It pushes everyone to be at their best.
Dover has some quality swimmers. They have done a nice job building their program.”
