Cape wrestling opens season with win over Lake

Seven pins propel Vikings to victory
December 8, 2017

The Cape wrestling team opened its new season with a decisive 50-22 victory over Lake Forest Dec. 6 at the Spartans’ gym.

“The young guys are working hard in the practice room and improving,” said Cape coach Chris Mattioni. “It was a nice team win and a good confidence boost for freshmen LB Harrington and Dajour Bailey. Our experienced wrestlers wrestled well. We have a lot of first-year varsity wrestlers, so it is nice to see them progress and have success at that level.”

Pins were garnered by Harrington (106), Bailey (126), Andre Currie (138), Eesa Johnson (170), Chris Handlin (182), Billy Ott (220) and Tyler Lecates (heavyweight). A tech fall was picked up by Anthony Caruso (132), and Royuan Jones won a major decision in the 160 class.

Cape will travel to Delmar for the Delmar Wrestling Invitational Tournament Friday, Dec. 8.
