Caroling in the season on The Circle

Songfest helps to raise food for those in need throughout county
December 10, 2016

More than 300 carolers gathered in downtown Georgetown for the 33rd annual Caroling on The Circle Dec. 5 to ring in the Christmas season and collect an estimated 14,000 canned goods and nonperishable items for local food banks.

Started in 1984 as part of the Delaware First initiative, a generation later, Caroling on The Circle continues to help those in need. The community has donated more than 685,000 canned goods through the program over the past three decades.

Sussex County officials are once again asking residents to “Pack the Pod,” a 14-by-7-foot storage trailer on The Circle.

The food drive continues through Friday, Dec. 30. The public can continue to drop off canned goods and nonperishable food items 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday at the county administrative offices building on The Circle or the west office complex offices on Route 113, both in Georgetown.

Items collected will be donated to approximately 15 area pantries, shelters and church organizations for distribution within Sussex County.
