Charles D. ‘Charlie’ Long Jr., accomplished attorney

January 4, 2018

Charles D. “Charlie” Long Jr., 76, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully, Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017.

Charlie was born in Upland, Pa., and was the son of the late Eunice (Kinmonth) and Charles D. Long Sr. Charlie graduated from Chester High School in 1959 where he was president of his class as well as a member of the Chester Clippers basketball team. Charlie graduated from the University of Delaware in 1963 with his bachelor's degree, Delaware Law School in 1975 with his Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD) degree, and finally earning his Master of Laws (LL.M) degree from Temple Law School in1978.

Charlie was a member of the Pennsylvania Bar, as well as the American Arbitration Association. Charlie began working for Boeing and then American Hoechst Corporation as labor relations director for both companies. Charlie retired from the State of Delaware as executive director of the Public Employment Relations Board in 2008.

In his younger years Charlie loved spending his summers at the beach and being a former lifeguard for the Rehoboth Beach Patrol, playing racquetball and spending time with his friends. More recently he enjoyed the time he spent aboard his boat on the Chesapeake Bay and at his home in Rehoboth Beach. However, his happiest times were spent in his sunroom watching sports with a cold beer, and time spent with his family.

Charlie is survived by his daughter, Kristen N. Long (Jack Beckett) and his sister Cheryl E. Long, both of Rehoboth Beach.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Friends may visit the family Saturday, Jan. 13, from 1 to 3 p.m., at McCrery & Harra Funeral Homes, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, where a Celebration of His Life will follow at 3 p.m. Burial will be private.
