Film society to open ‘Dark Horse’ at Cinema Art Theater July 29

July 28, 2016

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “Dark Horse,” the inspirational true story documentary opening Friday, July 29.

The story is set in a former mining village in Wales, where a group of friends from a working men's club decide to take on the elite “sport of kings” and breed themselves a racehorse. Raised on a slag-heap allotment, their foal, Dream Alliance, grows into an unlikely champion, beating the finest thoroughbreds in the land, before suffering a near-fatal accident. Nursed back to health by the love of his owners - for whom he's become a source of inspiration and hope – Dream Alliance makes a remarkable recovery.

Discovering if the recovery can extend to the track is a heart-stopping experience. Directed and written by Louise Osmond, “Dark Horse” was named World Cinema Documentary at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, and it received the British Independent Film Award for Best Documentary in 2015.

Admission for a screening is $8 for RBFS members and $10 for future members. Tickets can be purchased at the Cinema Art Theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening. Screening times are 4 p.m., Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 29-31, as well as 4 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 3-4. All screenings are held at the Cinema Art Theater at 17701 Dartmouth Drive in Dartmouth Plaza, behind the Lewes Wawa.
