Geraldine Bullard Kenney, devoted to family

Geraldine Bullard Kenney, 97, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, at her home in Henlopen Acres. She was born Oct. 25, 1919, in Hartford, Conn., the third of eight children of Luther and Alice (Stone) Bullard.

Mrs. Kenney grew up in Hartford, and upon completing her education, joined a local advertising agency in Hartford. In 1943 she married Peter Kenney, who was serving in the Armed Forces during World War II. Mr. and Mrs. Kenney settled in Newington, Conn., with their two sons, and Mr. Kenney managed a television and radio station in nearby New Britain. In 1962, the family relocated to Washington, D.C, when Mr. Kenney became head of NBC's government affairs office there.

They remained in Washington, D.C., until his retirement in 1983, at which time they moved to Henlopen Acres. Their marriage lasted nearly 70 years, until Mr. Kenney's death in early 2013. Mrs. Kenney was a member of St. Edmond Catholic Church in Rehoboth Beach. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Mrs. Kenney is survived by her sons: John T. Kenney (Constance Schantz) of Lewes, and Peter B. Kenney,Jr. (Kathy Summerlee) of Atlanta, Ga.; her grandchildren: Nicholas Allen (Jessica) of Silver Spring, Md., Christine S. Kenney (Jens Fischer) of Santa Ana, Calif., Michael S. Kenney (Chessa) of New York, N.Y., Thomas S. Kenney (Chelsey) of Castro Valley, Calif., and Alice M. Kenney of Denver, Colo.; her great-grandchildren: Christopher Allen of Silver Spring, and Adelaide Kenney of New York; her brother, Robert Bullard (Gloria) of The Villages, Fla.; and her numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Aug. 7, at 2 p.m., at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach. Interment will immediately follow the Mass at Epworth Cemetery, Henlopen Avenue, Rehoboth Beach. All arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Lewes.
