Joseph Thomas Carmody, firefighter/EMT
Joseph Thomas Carmody, 37, of Bethany Beach, formerly of Chevy Chase, Md., passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017, at home. Joe was born in Virginia Jan. 28, 1980, son of the late Kevin William Carmody and Barbara Jane (McCloskey) Carmody.
Joe was a firefighter/EMT serving at various fire companies in Sussex County, and most recently with the Millville Fire Company. He volunteered with the Bethany Beach Fire Company, was a Mason with Doric Lodge 30 in Millville, and a personal trainer in Ocean View. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, kayaking and walking the beach with his dog Magnum.
He is survived by his wife of five years, Amanda Pearson-Carmody; his 8-month-old daughter, Fallyn Carmody; a sister, Jane McCloskey Carmody of Gaithersburg, Md.; and multiple loving family members and friends.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 28, and again at noon, Saturday, April 29, at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View. A Masonic service will be held Saturday, April 29, at 1 p.m., followed by a prayer service and full fireman's honors at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
