Margaret J. ‘Peggy’ Lemos, Sussex Trust retiree

Margaret Jane 'Peggy' Lemos, 91, of Georgetown, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2018, at Harrison Senior Living in Georgetown.

Margaret was born May 29, 1926, in Delaware City to the late Francis "Frank" J. Rhein, a long-time fisherman in the Lewes area in the '50s, and Bertha Hardesty (Smith) Rhein. He was captain of a fishing trawler, the Thomas R.

Peggy graduated from Delaware City School. In 1944, at 18, she was a member of the Army Air Forces Aircraft Warning Service Reserve. In 1945, at the age of 19, she was working at Fort Dupont as a clerk typist supporting the World War ll effort. She later moved closer to her parents, who lived near Lewes (Overbrook), and began a career in retail sales working at various businesses such as Silco, American Hardware, and finally Beauchamps Clothing, which were all located on Second Street in Lewes.

She eventually secured a position at Sussex Trust Company where she was a bank teller, and retired from there after 25 years of service, serving both in the main office in Lewes and the satellite site at Five Points. She spent her remaining years in Georgetown close to her son. She enjoyed reading, visiting with friends and being with her family.

In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by siblings Francis J. Rhein, Thomas Rhein and Mary Agnes Cain.

She is survived by her son, Albert '"Frank" Lemos (Dawn); granddaughter, Jennifer Mathews (Paul); a great-granddaughter, Sarah Mathews; a sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at Union Cemetery, Georgetown and is private. Donations in Peggy's memory can be made to Catholic Charities, 2601 West 4th St., Wilmington, DE 19805. Arrangements in the care of Short Funeral Services, Georgetown.
