Marika ‘Miss Pete’ Vasilikos, opened Sand Palace Motel

Marika Vasilikos "Miss Pete," 86, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa. She was born Feb. 18, 1931, in Kavala, Greece, daughter of the late Michalis and Fotini (Asakidis) Agianidis. She was also preceded in death by her husband Panagiotis Vasilikos; and a son Frank Vasilikos in 2013.

Mrs. Vasilikos, prior to moving from Greece to Wilmington along with her husband, opened a school where she taught sewing to the local women. After moving to Delaware she provided her expertise as a seamstress for many of the Wilmington elite as well as working with her husband as an owner and operator of Pete's Subs and Steaks in the Wilmington area from 1973-85, and Towne Pizza across from Del Tech from 1984-87. They continued their business skills by building and opening in 1986 the Sand Palace Motel in Dewey Beach, which continued under their care until 2006. She thoroughly enjoyed her many commercial real estate ventures throughout her time in Delaware.

She is survived by her son, Michael Pete Vasilikos (Liz) of Rehoboth Beach; daughter Kathy Halkopoulos (Nick) of Rehoboth Beach; brother Nick Aslaouridis (Helen) of Newark; grandchildren Marika and Thalia Vasilikos, Moses Halkopoulos, and Pete and Marika Vasilikos; great-grandchild, Ilias Halkopoulos; daughter-in-law, Vivian Vasilikos of Rehoboth Beach; sister-in-law Foula Tsionas of Wilmington; niece Fotini Aslaouridis of Newark; and a cousin, Vasiliki Elefteriadou of Greece. She is also survived by her adored Macaw named Rodney.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 11 a.m., at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 8850 Coastal Highway, Ocean City, Md. Viewing will be held Monday from 6 to 9 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes. Burial will follow the services at Epworth Methodist Cemetery, 187 Henlopen Ave., Rehoboth Beach.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Georges Greek Orthodox Church, 8805 Coastal Highway, Ocean City, MD 21842.
