Shirley Y. Thompson, owned travel agency

Shirley Y. Thompson, 78, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family.

Shirley was born in Lewes, Nov. 19, 1938, daughter of the late Joseph H. Prettyman and Ethaleene (Steele) Prettyman. She was the owner of Welcome Aboard Travel in Dover.

She enjoyed spending time with her children, golfing, boating and traveling. She would winter in Fort Myers, Fla., and would often say, "I lived a life that most people only dreamed of."

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Honorable Robert Dodd Thompson Jr. in 2008; a son, Charles Larsen in 1999; and a brother, Albert Jerry Prettyman. She is survived by two children, Shelley Brocklehurst of Dover and Robert Dodd Thompson III and his wife Susan of Millsboro; five grandchildren, Edward "Eddie" Brocklehurst Jr., Robert Dodd Thompson IV, Jessica Larsen, Josh Larsen and Allison Rich; and four great-grandchildren. Shirley is also survived by three siblings, Joanne Prettyman of Lakeland, Fla., Marilyn "Marlee" Kenworthy of Rehoboth Beach, and Joseph "Jay" H. Prettyman of Lewes; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 22, at Conley's Chapel, 22150 Robinsonville Road, Lewes, where friends may call after 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Shirley's name to the Tunnell Cancer Center, 18947 John J. Williams Hwy., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
