Terrence Peter Figurell, proud Marine veteran
Terrence Peter Figurell, 72, went home to the Lord Sunday, June 11, 2017. He was born May 30, 1945, in Presbury, England, son of the late Wandy John Figurell and Winifred Patricia Figurell.
Terry spent his formative years in Manchester, England with his parents and sister Christine. The family resettled in the United States, first in western Pennsylvania and then Delaware. By the age of 19, Terry was a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps and served two tours of duty as a machine-gun squad leader during the Vietnam War.
After returning home, he joined the Wilmington Police Department. He was an exemplary officer, instructor, and advocate of community policing. Terry resumed his education and completed a bachelor of arts degree in communications from Neumann College in Aston, Pa. His particular interests were in the performing arts and creative writing.
In 2000, Bonnie and Terry moved to Rehoboth where he nurtured a love for boating and fishing in his newfound home. He also enjoyed his time as commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7447 in Rehoboth. Throughout his life, Terry's leadership qualities were a part of his charisma and natural charm.
Terry is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie Seaman Figurell; his son, Paul John Figurell and wife Robyn; his daughter, Kelly Ann Adams; his sisters: Christine Figurell, Anthea T. Piscarik and Maria Haley; his grandchildren: Kyle, Ryan, and Sean; and his nephew Rodney. He is also survived by Bonnie's beloved family members who were a family to him.
Services will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 20165 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947. The Terrence P. Figurell Memorial Fund has been established in honor of all Veterans of Foreign Wars. Ongoing contributions can be made to the Ministry of Caring Inc., 115 E. 14th St., Wilmington, DE 19801.
