Tidewater establishes interconnection with Lewes BPW

April 25, 2017

Tidewater Utilities Inc. recently announced the completion of a critical water main interconnection between Tidewater’s Rehoboth District and the Lewes Board of Public Works water system. This interconnection allows for the provision of water service to both parties for resiliency and emergency response purposes. Tidewater constructed a 60-foot-long water connection under Kings Highway in Lewes and installed an 8-by-16-foot vault, consisting of large flow meters, valves and piping. This will enable both organizations to better track and monitor water flow in and out of each of their respective systems.

“The Lewes Board of Public Works is proud of its record of providing the highest-quality and most reliable water service to our customers,” said Darrin Gordon, BPW general manager. “As a safeguard to that record of reliability, we have partnered with our neighboring water provider, Tidewater, to ensure that if an emergency should occur, our customers will still have water. This became very useful as we recently initiated a major maintenance project on our water storage tank. While our water treatment facility is capable of providing water without the tank in service, a level of confidence is provided by having the interconnection in place with Tidewater.”

Earlier this month, White Marsh Environmental Systems Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Tidewater, began a five-year contract with the BPW to provide 24/7 operations and maintenance of BPW’s Howard Seymour Water Reclamation Facility and their 33 wastewater pump stations.
