Oh Boy! It's Christmas! Holiday shows set for Lewes, Rehoboth

Oh Boy! A Tribute to Buddy Holly will present a special Christmas show at three venues in the Rehoboth-Lewes area this season.The show is called  Oh Boy! It’s Christmas!

Oh Boy! A Tribute to Buddy Holly was one of the hits at this year's Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival. The band features Walt Hetfield as Buddy, Barry Eli on bass and keyboards, Mike Long on rhythm guitar and bass, and Ken Schleifer on drums. Oh Boy! in its regular tribute show plays note-for-note versions of Buddy Holly and the Crickets songs. Hetfield goes in character as Buddy Holly and narrates the legend's life story.The group also performs other rockabilly classics.

“Buddy Holly never recorded a Christmas album or even one Christmas song, so I wondered what would it would have been like if he had recorded some holiday fare,” said Hetfield.

“We’ve really had a lot of fun putting this show together and I think audiences are going to really enjoy it. I love doing new ideas. Sort of like Christmas, you’re not sure what’s under the tree.”

The debut show will be at Casa Dileo on Rehoboth Ave. Rehoboth at 8 p.m. on Tuesday Dec. 4 following the Rehoboth Beach Christmas parade. The next show will be at Arena’s Bar & Deli in the Village by the Sea Mall in Rehoboth as part of the Adopt-A-Family fundraiser at 9 p.m. on Friday Dec. 7. The final local show will be at Bethany Blues in Lewes at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15.
