Elizabeth Taylor McFadden, retired clerk of peace

Elizabeth Taylor McFadden, 93, of Cadbury at Lewes, formerly of Dover, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford.

Mrs. McFadden was born June 29, 1919, in Wilmington, to the late Percival Franklin Taylor and Arleen Evadna Bagby Taylor. She attended Earlham College in Indiana as an English major.

She served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-45 as a radio operator second class, she was the first class of WAVES out of Philadelphia, Pa. Mrs. McFadden was the clerk of peace in Kent County from 1967-71. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Dover, Dover Century Club and the Colonial Tennis Club. Mrs. McFadden was an avid bridge player, tennis player, collected antiques and enjoyed sailing.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William “Nick” McFadden, in 2002; and sister Dorothy Booth.

She is survived by her son, W. Nicholas McFadden and his wife Kim of Newark; daughters, Elizabeth M. Rice of Vincennes, Ind., Nancy M. Krzyzanowski and her husband Jim of Rehoboth, S. Amanda Skomorucha and her husband Rob of Wilmington, and Arleen Laporte and her husband Rusty of Lewes; brother, Robert Taylor of Guilford, Conn.; sister, Anna Lou Harney, Mary Point, Va.; six grandchildren, John, Curtis, Meredith, Ashley, Michael and Colin; and one great-grandchild, Ellie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 15, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State Street, Dover. Friends may call from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Interment will be at the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
