Jeremy "J.D." Maull of Lewes was named the Delaware Interscholastic Football Coaches Association Football Coach of the Year at its banquet held Jan. 28 at Dover Downs.

Maull was named the first head coach of Saint Georges Tech five years ago at the age of 27. Over the last three years, the Hawks have gone 26-4 with two state playoff appearances.

In 2012, Saint Georges finished with a perfect season record of 10-0, losing to Archmere  19-13 in the first round of the state playoffs.

"I’d like to thank Jerry Lamey, the assistant principal and head of athletics, for hiring me five years ago,” J.D. said his acceptance speech.

“I also want to thank George Glenn for the Xs and Os and best coach, my mother, who was the best I saw relating to kids. And of course, Bill Collick from just around the corner [in Lewes] has always been a part of my life."

Locals Kai Maull and Ron Burton are members of the Saint Georges coaching staff.
