The Lewes Yacht Club will kick off the 2013 regatta season by hosting the Hobie Class Northeast Area Championships Friday, May 10, through Sunday, May 12.

On May 10, Geoff Becker will featured as a guest speaker. Becker not only has experience as a coach and All-American collegiate sailor, he also won the Lightning North American title in 2007.

Practice time will be provided on May 10 with races scheduled for May 11 and 12 in Delaware Bay off the coast of Lewes. Awards will be presented to the top three winners in each class. Race organizers say as many as 80 competitors are expected. Matt Bower, Lewes Yacht Club Sailing School director, said, "We are excited to have the Hobie Cats coming to Delaware Bay to compete. It has been a while, and we look forward to all the sails on the water."

The race is open to sailors in Division 11 as well as Fleet 106 at Rehoboth Bay Sailing Association.
