Kayleigh Barnes of Seaford heads to Miss High School America Pageant July 10 to 14

Seaford native Kayleigh Lyn Barnes will represent the state of Delaware at the Miss High School America Pageant July 10-14 in Orlando, Fla., where she will vie for a $10,000 scholarship.

Barnes earned the title of Miss High School Delaware 2013 last August at the state pageant in Lancaster, Pa., where she competed alongside 38 other young ladies for the opportunity to travel to Florida and compete at the national pageant.

As Miss High School Delaware, she has maintained an active presence in the community and contributed more than 1,000 hours at organizations including the American Red Cross and local schools. Kayleigh has also founded Barefoot Beauties, an organization that builds self-confidence and public speaking skills as well as a foundation of community service in young ladies of all ages.

Barnes is a three-sport athlete, active in field hockey, competitive swimming and softball, and is a member of her school marching band. She has been a member of the Sussex County Junior Honors Band for the last two years and is a member of the National Junior Honor Society. She has received numerous awards and honors for leadership and community service. Kayleigh will be a sophomore at Delmar Senior High School in the fall.

In Florida, Barnes will compete with 51 other contestants in evening wear and fun fashion and interview for the title of Miss High School America and a prize package that includes a $10,000 scholarship.
