Paul D. Johnson, rambunctious personality

July 9, 2013

Paul D. Johnson, 78, of Millsboro, and formerly of Maryland, passed away at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford Saturday, July 6, 2013.

Born in Washington, D.C. Aug. 3, 1934, he was the son of the late Ralph R. and Annie M. Davis Johnson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and retired from the International Union of Elevator Construction Workers. He was a good carpenter and loved to restore antique automobiles.

He had a large, rambunctious personality and overwhelming presence, yet was very kind, loved to have fun and was a showman – especially for kids. He was very good to his grandchildren, very fond of his natural and “adopted” grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Johnson; and his children: Paul D. Johnson Jr. and wife Cathy, Robert R. Johnson, James A. Johnson and Patricia Howard, and her husband, Alfred. Also surviving are a brother, Harry R. Johnson and his wife, Jean; and a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, extended family and friends, and especially his adopted grandchildren: Chrissy and Jennifer Goncalves, and April Seabrook. He is also survived by a feline friend, Sam.

A funeral service and celebration of his life will be held at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St. Millsboro, at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 11, where friends may call one hour prior for visiting and viewing. Interment will follow later in the day at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suitland, Md. at 2 p.m.
